If you're thinking about studying a course to qualify for an MCSE, it's likely you'll come into one of two categories. You could be about to come into the computer world, and your research tells you the IT industry has a huge demand for those with appropriate certifications. Or you could be a knowledgeable person ready to formalise your skills with an MCSE.

When researching computer training companies, make it a policy to stay away from those who reduce their out-goings by not upgrading their courses to the latest level of Microsoft development. This is no use to the trainee as they will have been learning from the wrong MCSE version which doesn't correspond to the present exams, so it's likely they'll fail. Avoid the companies who are just trying to sell you something. Ask for comprehensive, personal guidance to be sure you're registering on the correct course. Guard against being rushed into their standard course by some pushy sales person.

A subtle way that training companies make more money is by adding exam fees upfront to the cost of a course then giving it 'Exam Guarantee' status. This looks like a great idea for the student, but let's just examine it more closely:

A lot bank on the fact that you will never make it to exams - but they won't refund the cash. Re-takes of previously unsuccessful exams via companies with an 'Exam Guarantee' are monitored with tight restrictions. They'll insist that you take mock exams first until you've demonstrated an excellent ability to pass.

Exams taken at VUE and Prometric centres are around 112 pounds in the UK. What's the point of paying huge 'Exam Guarantee' fees (often covertly rolled into the cost of the course) - when a quality course, support and commitment, effort and practice with quality exam preparation systems are the factors that really get you through.

There are colossal changes coming via technology in the near future - and it only gets more exciting every day. There are people who believe that the technological advancement that's been a familiar part of our recent lives is easing off. This couldn't be more wrong. Massive changes are on the horizon, and most especially the internet will become an increasingly dominant part of our lives.

And it's worth remembering that the average salary in the IT industry in Great Britain is much greater than the national average salary, so in general you'll probably gain noticeably more as a trained IT professional, than you'd expect to earn elsewhere. With the IT marketplace growing with no sign of a slow-down, it's looking good that the search for well trained and qualified IT technicians will continue actively for the significant future.

It's usual for students to get confused with one aspect of their training very rarely considered: The method used to 'segment' the courseware before being sent out to you. Training companies will normally offer a 2 or 3 year study programme, and drop-ship the materials to you piecemeal as you complete each exam. Sounds reasonable? Well consider these facts: Often, the staged breakdown prescribed by the provider doesn't suit you. What if you find it hard to complete all the elements at the speed required?

To be straight, the best solution is to have a copy of their prescribed order of study, but get all the study materials at the start. Everything is then in your possession in the event you don't complete everything within their ideal time-table.
